Geography
Geography at Elmstead Wood Primary
We have given careful consideration to developing an ambitious, knowledge-rich geography curriculum that will inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. This will equip all our children to be tolerant and considerate members of our local and global communities as well as competent geographers.
Through our geography curriculum, children are given the opportunity to understand the basic human and physical processes which impact everyday life. Due to global issues such as climate change, mass migration, deforestation and sea level rise, the study of geography is becoming increasingly pertinent to children today.
Key concepts
Our geography curriculum is built around a set of core concepts that we feel are essential for children to understand in order to become competent geographers. These concepts are place, space, scale, interconnection, human and physical processes, environmental impact and sustainable development.
Enrichment opportunities
Through our teaching of geography, children are given an opportunity for fieldwork in every year group. This includes local area walks and surveys, river trips and coastal walks.
